AUCB Study Abroad
Study Abroad Short Courses
How to Apply
Everything you need to know to apply
Step 1 - CHOOSE YOUR COURSE
You should read the course description carefully to find the most appropriate course that fits your experience.
Year 1 is recommended for students with limited art and design experience. Year 2 will suit more advanced students.
We have a partnership with a local language school. If your language ability is below IELTS 5.5, we can help you arrange a pre-sessional course before you start your studies with us.
If you can't find the right course you want, we will try to design a programme tailored to your individual needs. Please contact the Study Abroad Office for further advice.

Step 2 - APPLY ONLINE
You will find an Online Application for BA (Hons) Semester Courses here. You will also find a link to the Online Application Form within each course description.
Please complete the Application Form and email the following documents to studyabroad@aucb.ac.uk:
- A letter why you wish to study with the Arts University College at Bournemouth.
- A letter of recommendation or reference from your tutor or a manager.
- A copy of the main photograph page from your passport and an additional passport sized photograph.
- If English is not your first language, you will need to supply proof of English language ability. A minimum of IELTS score 5.5 or equivalent TOEFL scores.
Step 3 - PORTFOLIOS
Email examples of your work to studyabroad@aucb.ac.uk. Do not send original work in case it gets lost in the post.
Step 4 - FEES
Study Abroad students pay £3,650 per term for tuition fees.
All students joining a Study Abroad Semester programme at AUCB, will be charged full fees. This will not exempt students from countries within the European Union.
Full payment is due 6 weeks prior to the start of your course.
More information regarding fees can be found here.
Step 5 - ACCEPTING YOUR OFFER
Once your application has been approved, we will send you the following documents:
- University College Offer Letter
- Information about housing and arriving in Bournemouth
- Information about our Orientation Programme for international and European students
It is important you read the documents carefully and that you return a signed copy of the offer to advise us about accepting the offer.
Step 6 - VISA REQUIREMENTS + APPLICATION
Some students will need to obtain a visa before they travel to the UK. You can check whether this applies to you on the UK VISA website at www.ukvisas.gov.uk.
If you do need a visa, ensure that you start the process applying early, and if you require help, please contact the Study Abroad Office.
Should you have to apply for a visa, we will issue you with a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) with the University College. This will account for 30 of the 40 points needed to get your visa.
The other points will come from checks by the UK Border Agency Officers. You will be asked to provide evidence that you have sufficient funds to support yourself while studying in the UK and that your documents are genuine.
We will ask you for a deposit before we can provide you with a supporting visa letter.
If you do not need a visa, but are not from an EU country you must make sure that you have your acceptance letter and course information with you when you pass through immigration at the airports or ports. Most importantly check that your passport is correct and is not due to expire as it is much easier to update your passport in your home country than it is in the UK.
Step 7 - ACCOMMODATION
As Bournemouth and Poole are major tourist towns there is a wide range of accommodation available and it is much cheaper than other parts of the country such as London.
There are three types of accommodation available for students:
- Halls of Residence on campus and in Bournemouth town centre (from £92 - £120 per week, including bills)
- Privately rented self-catering accommodation - houses or flats shared with other students or with the landlord, or living on your own in a bedsit (from £65 - £85 per week, excluding bills such as electricity and gas)
- Living with a host family in a private home, often with breakfast and evening meal provided (from £90 - £105 per week, including bills)
Our Student Services team deals with all accommodation matters, and advisers are here all year round to answer any queries you may have.
