This unit of study is designed to introduce you to the fundamental theories, techniques and processes relevant to costume construction. The skills you acquire will support your development through the course and underpin the knowledge required for costume making in future units.

Basic pattern drafting Marking and laying out patterns Introduction to machinery and equipment Introduction to fundamental costume construction techniques and fabric embellishment Workshop inductions.

Aims

A1 To develop specialist knowledge and skills in costume cut and construction 
A2 To develop skills in specialist sewing techniques and fabric embellishment for costume 
A3 To introduce specialist equipment relevant to costume construction

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this unit you will be able to:

LO1 Evidence specialist knowledge and skills in costume construction techniques through your workbook and pattern drafting
LO2 Evidence specialist knowledge and skills through the production of both hand sewn and machine sewn samples
LO3 Apply technical processes in costume construction through the use of specialist equipment
