Study Abroad Costume with Performance Design Modules

This and the subsequent unit of study enable you to put into practice theories and techniques of Costume with Performance Design. You will explore a given dramatic text, analyse the script, explore the communication of character and consider theatre spaces. You will investigate a dramatic production that challenges contemporary, historical and cultural forms, through the integration of theory and research with practical studies. This will develop your creative design work and aesthetic understanding, and inform your study of performance space, and costume.

Method of Delivery
Project work, lectures, screenings, workshops, tutorials, student presentation and group critiques and self directed study.

Aims

A1 To develop a knowledge and understanding of the dramatic and creative contexts for Costume with Performance Design.
A2 To increase skills in research and analysis in the context of costume and set for performance.
A3 To develop knowledge and skills through exploring the use of colour, media and aesthetics in the portrayal of character and set within a dramatic context.
A4 To expand knowledge of fabric properties and their appropriate use in costume design and introduce basic processes in fabric dyeing
