Study Abroad Costume with Performance Design Modules

This unit of study provides the opportunity to realise a costume design from 2D to 3D. You will apply the skills and techniques of costume construction learnt in the Fundamental Studies: Construction unit to produce a costume/ part costume as outlined in the unit assignment. You will develop your creative and aesthetic understanding through visual realisation of your design.

Outline Syllabus

  • Translation of a costume design from 2D to 3D 
  • Pattern drafting and adaption and/or stand cutting 
  • Costume construction techniques with due consideration for aesthetics 
  • Fabric processes appropriate to costume 
  • Fitting etiquette and skills 
  • Project evaluation

Method of Delivery
Studio demonstrations, practical workshops, learning teams, group and individual tutorials, self-directed study.

Aims

A1 To develop your costume construction skills through the realisation of a costume design
A2 To develop skills in fitting a costume for performance, whilst transposing the design accurately
A3 To develop understanding of costume aesthetics through appropriate fabric choices and construction techniques
A4 To develop your analytical and critical responses to costume interpretation
