AUCB Study Abroad

Architectural Design for Living

Study Abroad Architecture Course Modules

Credit Points: 15
Study Time: 150 Hours

The unit addresses the relationship of site, materials and human needs to architectural form. Set in a rural location the unit asks for the design of an interior space, related to an exterior setting. This consists of a simple domestic programme of occupation, with minimum separate rooms for occasional use or retreat. Design is through progressive drawing and modelling to understand issues of the design process. These explore materials, construction and light as means to create interior spaces. The architectural proposition is developed through this exploration and integrates knowledge of technical realisation throughout.

Aims

A1 To consider the relationship of inhabitation and use to architectural form.
A2 To introduce the issues concerning the creation of interior space.
A3 To introduce interior/exterior site relationship in architectural design.
A4 To develop representational skills.
A5 To introduce issues of site analysis and natural context.
