Lectra Pattern Design System
Study Abroad Fashion Design & Technology Modules
Credit Points: 15
Study Time: 150 Hours
The implementation of software technology into pattern cutting is becoming increasingly more important in today's fashion industry.
This unit introduces you to the basic principles of computer pattern design using a programme called Modaris provided by Lectra a world leader in software solutions to the fashion industry.
You will learn how to input your pattern pieces using the digitiser, and modify and manipulate patterns on the screen. You will be introduced to the "function tools" dedicated to facilitate the creation of your patterns, including sizing requirements. You will also learn how to use the Lectra printing software.
You will produce a computer generated pattern from which you will construct a basic garment. This will be presented alongside the pattern in an envelope supported by specification sheets (specs), and flat drawings (flats) using CAD drawing techniques.

Aims
A1 To give an understanding of computer generated pattern design.
A2 To encourage the development of experimenting with the Lectra software package and its application.
A3 To develop an awareness of how this tool is used in industry.
A4 To develop skills in the presentation of flat work.
A5 To construct a finished garment.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this unit you will be able to:
LO1 Demonstrate competence in the use of this specialised computer software.
LO2 Demonstrate use of experimentation including:
- Digitising of patterns
- Modifying of patterns
- Creating pieces on screen
- Using the printing software
LO3 Utilise demonstrated techniques in the realisation of personal solutions with an awareness of industry methods.
LO4 Demonstrate presentation and organisational abilities through your file of work and finalised pattern including:
