This unit allows students the opportunity to consolidate the fashion knowledge and skills gained to date and apply these under a single project brief and or briefs. Students experience the complete fashion process, using the product as the centre of focus taking it from concept through to final promotion.
It is an opportunity for students to experience an holistic approach to the fashion system and allows students to identify potential areas of strengths within the discipline in order to make more informed decisions about choices in their second year of study.

- Research and development of ideas themes and concepts through experimentation and sampling.
- Design development and interpretation.
- Development of illustration.
- Creative construction.
- Quality control requirements and procedures.
- Fully styled and presentation finished outcome.

Technical support, tutorials, demonstrations and critique.
Aims
A1 To realise research and design work and support the development of an individual approach to garment construction, taking into consideration a specific market.
A2 To develop an understanding of fabric handling and its properties in relation to cutting techniques and garment construction methods.
A3 Awareness of quality assurance.
A4 To develop confident communication and presentation skills relevant to the project brief.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this unit you will be able to:
LO1 Realise design ideas and concepts into garment form.
Demonstrate an ability to exercise and apply a range of techniques to garment construction.
LO2 Source and apply appropriate materials with the relevant characteristics suitable for the product to include the various costings, properties, textures and colours.
LO3 Demonstrate and apply appropriate quality assurance standards and procedures to final outcomes.
LO4 Demonstrate the ability to communicate ideas and concepts within a professional environment.
