Study Abroad Film Production Course Modules

This unit will develop and consolidate the links between theory and practice. You will study major film theories and how these have been applied to practice. The unit will discuss theory as a tool to question existing contemporary norms. Most of the theorists analysed here were themselves practical filmmakers testing their own theories with practice, for example, Eisenstein and Balázs.

In this unit you will also develop further your research, analytical and critical skills.

  • Research methodology 
  • Development of critical argument 
  • Introduction to major film theories

Method of delivery
Lectures, screenings, discussions, and individual tutorials.

Aims

A1 To identify links between your specialism and the relevant historical, contextual, cultural and conceptual frameworks.
A2 To develop the organisational skills which will enable independent learning and self- management.
A3 To develop skills in sustained academic writing
