In this unit, you will be exploring the functions and nature of drawing, past and present. You will investigate and experience various approaches to drawing. Through practice, consideration will be given to the roots of drawing and what constitutes a mark, a line or gesture. The role of drawing in your creative process will be explored and your visual vocabulary expanded. Drawing as a means of visualisation and development of ideas will be incorporated into your practice.

Outline Syllabus

  • Workshops expose you to new ideas and potentials in drawing which sets you up to expand a personal response to the unit.
  • Your work is looked at in a historical context as well as examining and testing the territory drawing now occupies.
  • Critical discussion with tutors will develop understanding. Individual and group tutorials will be scheduled to support learning.
  • Exploration of a range of media, processes and supports for drawing.

Method of Delivery
Lectures, demonstrations, presentations, discussions, seminars and critiques. Directed projects, studio sessions, independent study and practice.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this unit you will be able to:

LO1 Use drawing as a vehicle for analysis, research, experimentation, creativity and expression.
LO2 Generate, develop and transform ideas through drawing.
LO3 Use a wide range of drawing materials, processes and practical skills.
LO4 Demonstrate an understanding of the wide range of meaning and character of drawing in Fine Art.
