Study Abroad Modelmaking Course Modules

It is important that the modelmaker is fully conversant with the design process and able to be actively involved in it. This unit introduces the 3D design principles and theory outlining the design cycle and how design is communicated. It promotes your understanding of the engagement of theory and practice in modelmaking and design. The unit develops your design, research and critical analysis skills.

Method of Delivery
Lectures, studio seminars, group tutorials, formative peer evaluation, discussion, projects. Studio coaching.

Aims

A1 To promote effective engagement in the design process and to incorporate design principles in generating and developing concepts.
A2 To develop your measured drawing skills and presentation drawing approaches using traditional and digital techniques.
A3 To develop analytical skills in defining, communicating and researching the ideas of yourself and others.
A4 To promote critical judgments in evaluating concepts and proposing solutions.
A5 To promote your making knowledge, accuracy and skills, through the realisation of design models.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this unit you will be able to:

LO1 Use design methodology to generate concepts and explore design problems through to solution.
LO2 Demonstrate ability in communicating through measured drawing and presentation drawing using traditional and digital means.
LO3 Demonstrate abilities in researching and analysing ideas for communicating proposals in the design cycle.
LO4 Demonstrate your critical judgement in evaluating design concepts. 
LO5 Realise 3D making solutions.
